Smart Tips for Freezing Weather:
- Protect Your Home and Pipes
As the temperature drops, it's important to take steps to protect your home, especially when freezing weather hits. Cold temperatures can cause pipes to freeze and potentially burst, leading to costly damage. Here are some simple, effective tips to keep your home safe and warm during the coldest months. - Leave Faucets Dripping
When temperatures drop below freezing, allow a small stream of water to drip from your faucets. This helps prevent pipes from freezing by keeping water moving. Focus on faucets located on exterior walls or in unheated areas. - Open Cabinet Doors
Leave the doors of kitchen and bathroom cabinets open, especially those located under sinks, to allow warm air to circulate around exposed pipes and prevent them from freezing and potentially bursting in cold weather. - Disconnect Outside Hoses
Disconnect and store any outside hoses to prevent water from freezing inside them, which could lead to burst pipes. if you have exterior faucets, consider covering them with insulated foam covers for added protection. - Keep the Heat On
Even if you plan to be away for an extended period, make sure you leave your heat on at a minimum temperature (ideally above 60 F). This helps prevent the indoor temperature from dropping too lo, which causes pipes to freeze. - Let the Office Know If You're Going Away
If you will be away from your home for any length of time, notify the property office. This allows staff to check for any maintenance issues or unusual conditions that might arise when you're gone. It also helps the office respond promptly in case of emergency.
By following these simple tips, you can protect your home and prevent costly damage during freezing weather. Stay warm and safe this winter!
