All of the family units at the Van Buren Housing Authority are Public Housing units. Applicant's income must meet income limits and other tenant selection criteria. Our mission is to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing for low-income families to promote personal, economic and social upward mobility, and to provide families with the opportunity to make the transition from subsidized to non-subsidized housing.

We have 76 elderly units scattered throughout our complex.

Four of the elderly units are designated as handicap apartments that are 100% handicap friendly. The bathroom and bedroom has emergency call switches. There is easy access to the kitchen, bathroom sinks, thermostat and light switches. The bath area in these units have a roll-in shower stall with a hand held shower head.


8 units are 1-bedroom @ 600 sq. ft. 
50 units are 1-bedroom @ 795 sq. ft.
16 units are 1-bedroom @ 720 sq. ft.
2 units are 2-bedroom @ 816 sq. ft.


Amenities:

The tenants pay for the gas and electric and VBHA pays for the water, sewer and trash removal.

All units are furnished with a gas range, refrigerator, large pantry in kitchen, and washer and dryer hook-ups. Smoke alarm, cable ready, phone jack and lots of electrical outlets. Some units are equipped with flip down windows for easy cleaning. Plenty of closets and kitchen cabinets, even outdoor locked storage units plus small patio.

All of the local schools have storm shelters for your safety in case of adverse weather. The Resident Center is available for tenant's use; play cards, pot luck, family gatherings, birthday parties, and so on. Residents have the opportunity to get involved in the Neighborhood Watch and Resident Patrol.


Income Guidelines:

Rent is based on income, so rent could be anywhere from $50 up to the flat rent.

One Bedroom units currently rent for a flat fee of $409 per month.
Two Bedroom units currently rent for a flat fee of $543 per month.
